After you have done the “How to register your nickname, confirm & identify” tutorial, now is the point when you can ask, what do I do next?
You can use a vhost of your choice or use our offer list.
Then move on to learn about your NickServ, MemoServ, or even create your own registered IRC channel using the ChanServ service.
A vHost (virtual host) is a feature on some IRC networks, that allows you to be identified with a custom host, hiding your real ISP host or IP.
Some networks call this a ‘cloak’.
CyIRC already by default masks your host like Clk-A72AE879.dsl.dyn.forthnet.gr or your IP with a hash like AC025C4F.865EFD9A.9372794C.IP Clk stands for the cloak.
By default, our network encrypts this method to keep our users’ IP address from prying eyes, for security reasons we do not allow users to see other user’s IP.
So in this case with vHost, we can offer users the choice of whatever they want as a fun vHost. Although we also can offer users from our offer list.
Method 1
Let’s start. First, see our offerlist by typing /msg hostserv offerlist
To get the offer list, you need by typing /msg hostserv help offerlist, this will show up:
In this case, we are using $account and as you see now we have only one to offer.
To take the only one we offer just type /msg hostserv offerlist take 1 because it’s the only one we have for now on the list.
In case it doesn’t show up on your /whois yournick then, just reconnect login with /msg NickServ identify yourpass and do a /whois again on your nick.
After login you will see this message:
Method 2
Our second option is if you want a custom vHost for your needs. Then just type /msg hostserv help to see a list of the commands.
Using the help on every command will give you a full explanation of the functions of each command. For example, now we want to have custom vHost for info type /msg hostserv help request.
This will give you specific on the type of command we need to make a request for the admin to see and approve our vHost request.
Abusive vhosts are not allowed and will else be rejected.
So, in this request help info we see how the syntax shows us to be.
Example for the nick Cerberus type /msg hostserv request Hades.is.my.daddy or whatever you can think of. 🙂 So, let’s put this one to the test!
In this case, an admin or IRCop will see the request as a notification in MemoServ.
Now the admin will see the memoserv memo and takes action using /msg hostserv activate Cerberus. vHost for Cerberus has been activated.
Then it sends them an auto-memo to the user.
The user now types /msg memoserv read 1 to read the message. The message reads [auto memo]
Your requested vHost has been approved.
Now on your end, you must type /msg hostserv on to switch on the new vHost.
Take the moment and make a /whois yournick to see it. If not reconnect and login and your vHost will be active Cerberus changed host: Cerberus@C8A4F33C.60F1A01F.31DD56ED.IP → Cerberus@Hades.is.my.daddy
Updated: We have added (November 4th, 2019) the ability for any newly registered user to activate upon after confirmation of their newly registered nickname to turn on vhost.
“Your vhost of nickname.users.cyirc.org is now activated“.
This will automatically replace the nickname with your own nickname you registered. Just type /hs on or /msg hostserv on to activate your default vhost.
For example, the nickname Doggy registered and then after confirmed, then by typing /hs on or /msg hostserv on
“Your vhost of Doggy.users.cyirc.org is now activated“.
