A new point release of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is available to download.

Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS is the fourth point release and results in a brand-new installation image (ISO) that integrates all of the security patches, bug fixes, and software updates released since last August’s Ubuntu 22.04.3 image.

Additionally, Ubuntu 22.04.4 ships atop a new hardware enablement stack (HWE) composed of Linux kernel 6.5 (bringing support for newer hardware, file system tweaks, and security updates) and Mesa 23.2.1 (offering improved graphics support).

Package updates include Thunderbird 115.6, and Mozilla Firefox 122 (which will auto-update to the most recent release at the time of install in the background after a user logs in and connects to the internet).

See the Ubuntu Discourse for a full(er) comparison of changes between Ubuntu 22.04.3 and Ubuntu 22.04.4.

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is good until 2027

As a reminder, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is supported until April 2027. Support beyond that is available through an Ubuntu Pro/ESM subscription, which is free for home users but does require signing up and enrolling through the Software & Updates > Ubuntu Pro tab.

The fifth and final (planned) point release, Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS, will be released towards the end of the year. It will back port the Linux kernel and graphics stack from Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

Existing Ubuntu 22.04 LTS users will already have all of these changes. No-one needs to download the new ISO and reinstall to get them. Ubuntu point releases are intended for those who have not yet installed a release or who plan to do a new, fresh install.

Periodic refreshes to install media reduce the number of post-installation updates new users have to download after or during installation. They come with all of the latest updates (at the time of their release) included.

Download Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS from the Ubuntu website or the Ubuntu releases server (where you’ll find torrent files). System requirements for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS are a dual-core CPU, 4GB RAM, and 25GB of storage space or (ideally) greater.
